Fatal NI connect error 12170 in alert of Oracle 11gR2 database

Hello,

Right after I upgraded my databases from Oracle 10.2.0.4 to Oracle 11.2.0.3 I am seeing the following messages in the alert log repeatedly. I didn’t see these messages in 10g databases. I tried tracking down the IP address but found out that these were computers, which had been accessing the database for many years. But these messages are being logged into the alter log only after the upgrade to 11.2.0.3.

Is it a known behavior in Oracle 11gR2? I did some checking with documentation but couldn’t find any explanation. So any help will be appreciated.

the database?

Once you hit 11.2, the client-server interoperability matrix (Client /
Server Interoperability Support Matrix for Different Oracle Versions
(Doc ID 207303.1)) gets interesting.

You have TNS time outs. I have only one question: does everything else
works as it should? If the answer is positive, you don't have any
problems. If there is a problem, you can try with extending timeouts.
Here is the list of sqlnet.ora parameters for your version of database:

You can try modifying inbound connect timeout and outbound connect
timeout. There are also send and receive timeouts to play with. On LAN
configurations, I usually set those to 5 (the values are in seconds) and
that should be plenty. I believe that this "problem" is caused by an
incorrect default for some of the parameters. However, network usually
retries, so an ugly log entry is likely your only problem.

Mladen, We haven’t seen any issue yet except the nuisance of too many messages in the alert log. But it sounds like these messages could be ignored.
